Maxi Number of Custom Fields (2007)

Newbie

Hello,
Reasonably, what is the maximum number of Project Custom Fields that we can
create for use in the OLAP Cube of Project Server 2007 ? I was told that
Microsoft recommends not exceeding 9 custom fields because of performance
issues. That's would be very poor;-(
What is your experiment about that point ?
Thanks

Hi Newbie,

Generally you can create as many custom fields in Project Server as you
like. In order to use the custom fields for the Data Analyser, you will need
to check a couple of settings, since not all custom fields can be used in
OLAP Cubes. Check out this link here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms447495.aspx#pj12_EnterpriseCF_OLAPCubes

Generally you will find the more custom fields you have, the longer it will
take to build an OLAP Cube, but I would think that you can certainly use more
the only 9 custom fields. I think generally it is a trial and error kind of
approach. Depending on your Server ( in specific your RAM - since an OLAP
cube gets stored in RAM, thats why you have to rebuild it every day) you will
find that the performance can vary.
I hope this gives you a little bit of an insight in how to use the Custom
fields
