Maximum Number of Levels in a Numbered Outline?

If I understand correctly, the most levels I can have in an outline
numbered list is 9. Is there absolutely no way of altering this? I'm
outlining a paper that I'm writing and I need more than 9 levels.

I presume there's no way of altering the program. Is there a third-
party patch? Or does Microsoft plan on altering this in the future?
(I use Office 2003 for Mac.)

Thanks,

Any paper that needs more than *three* levels, much less nine is going to be
unreadable. Are you sure you understand how the levels work? You don't need
a level for each heading, just one for each level of heading: Level 1 for
headings (Part or Chapter), Level 2 for the subheads within that section
(Chapter or major division within the chapter), Level 3 for subdivisions
within Level 2, etc. See

Actually, I use eight or nine levels all the time. It's because I
write about philosophy and sometimes the arguments get pretty finely
subdivided. I could compact entire arguments into entries without the
subdivisions, but things become much clearer if I'm able to break down
everything into their "atomic" structures.

I'm guessing the answer to my question is "no."
