Maximum number of styles in a TOC definition

The max number of styles in a TOC appears to be 12 - as
demonstrated by recording a macro with more than 12.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

G'day "Tim" <[email protected]>,

Dunno what you mean. Each heading level (9 max) maps directly to a toc
style. There's also TOFs and TOAs if you are being tricky, as well as
using custom style lists to build the TOC.

As most people start to go goggle eyed with more than 4 levels of
heading, the need for 12 seems a little ... excessive shall we say :)

Hi Tim,

I can't confirm this for Word2000:
Just created a TOC from the 9 built-in heading styles plus 20 custom
styles, without a problem.

There can be 10.000 styles in a document or template. I wouldn't be very
surprised if the TOC dialog ran into some problems if you have thousands of
styles, but there doesn't seem to be a documented limit.

Regards,
Klaus
