maximum # of custom views in public folder

Is there a maximum number of custom views that can be created for any
single public folder? I read somewhere the magic number is 128. Is
that true? What happens if there are more views than allowed for a
single public folder?

I've never seen a figure for maximum views. Views are just hidden items. But even 128 would be a little hard to manage in the user interface.
