Maximum .pst File size

My boss recieved a message that the .pst file on his computer had reached
it's maximum capacity.

I explained to him how to save the emails in a separate file, but I was
wondering what the maximum file size is and can it be modified?

Pre 2003, 1.8 GB. 2003 & 2007, 20GB.
