Maximum Size of Excel Files

Hi:
In absence of a database I am trying to create
a "Mockbase" Excel file that works on the basis of
VLOOKUP tables.

However I am ending up with files which are 40MB and up!
What is the tipping point for an Excel file? At what size
do these spreadsheets become unstable?

Please help!

hi,
in theory there is no limit to the size of an excel file.
there are real world constrants like hard drive size,
amount of memory ect. There are limits on number of lines
and columns but not sheets. I have never heard of anyone
saying anything about unstable due to size but I have
heard of things like slow to load, long time to save,
error messages about low on resorces(memory) ect.
