MaxLocksPerFile Message

Hi,

I've inherited some reporting duties, that include as part of it, running
alter table queries in a macro (which also includes make tables). Some of
the alter table queries run fine, but some give me the 'File Sharing lock
count exceeded, Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry' message. I've been
able to compact and repair the database and get it past the first query that
errors, but I get the error again on another one. I don't want to have to
sit there and compact this database each time the macro runs and errors, so
I was hoping to increase the setting as the message suggests. I ran regedit
and found two entries for this in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Jet\3.5(& 4.0)\Engines\3.5(& Jet 3.x)
folders. Both have a data value of 0x0000251c(9500). Before I screw around
with the registry and mess something up, does anyone know the correct way to
increase the settings and what the settings should be?

Thanks in advance,
John
