I am using Word 2007 on a Windows XP SP3 platform.
I am seeing two different memory issues in my Word document. The document
is about 160 pages long, and contains about a dozen screen captures that are
in JPG format.
1. The document often shows empty frames where the screen captures should
be. Inside the empty frame is the message: The image cannot be displayed.
Your computer may not have enough memory to open the imate, or the image may
have been corrupted. Restart your computer..."
2. Parts of the document just drop out of memory. In an earlier version of
the document, the last 20% of the document disappeared. In the version of
the document I am working in today, 20% of the content dropped out of the
middle of the document (it didn't leave blank pages, it just dropped 20% of
the content, and then joined the previous and following sections together in
mid sentence).
Here are some troubleshooting steps I have taken:
1. My PC has 2 GB of RAM.
2. The Task Manager shows only about 1 MB of RAM consumed in the active
processes.
3. I had about 4 MB of *.tmp files on the hard drive.
4. I had only five applications open on my desktop (Lotus Notes, IE, Excel,
Word, and AuthorIT), and they were all fairly dormant (i.e., they were not
running processes in the background, and the Excel file was small).
5. The memory error in Word started showing up after I had booted up my PC
about 45 minutes ago (i.e., I did not do a single copy/paste of anything, so
the cache should not be clogged up).
6. The antivirus software on the PC is current.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but the Word file I have open was
originally a Word 2003 document, which I have converted over to Word 2007.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
