MCI Player Problem & Others

Since my original 'thread' vanished, I have some new developments.

If I turn the Graphics acceleration OFF, the video will now play but has the
following problems: It is very slow, blinks is jerky and I get a very small
picture in the main picture like on TV. The audio however is fine. Before
doing this, I installed Adobe Premiere into my new laptop to see if it would
work properly. After that Install, neither MCI Media player or WMP-9 would
work with the MPG videos. I get the infamous "Windows Media Player has
Encountered a Problem and needs to shut down" and you know the rest. I
uninstalled Adobe Premiere but still have the same shut down problem with
both MCI media Player and WMP-9. WMP-9 works with AVI files and Graphics
Acceleration OFF however only the AVI files play properly the MPEG's jerk,
blink and give me the tiny picture within the picture. Who knows, maybe I
discovered a new upcoming feature from MS.

My less complex PPT and PPS shows involving photos and text still do not
work properly even with no Graphic Acceleration. Some slides show both text
and Photos as they had been doing but others will show text but no photo or
the color background is missing. The background audio works just fine
whether WAV or MID. I Uninstalled and reinstalled PPT 2003, tried Safe Mode,
etc. I have never had these problems on lesser machines ( Dell, IBM, NEC,
Toshiba, Acer, etc. working WIN 98, 2000 Pro and XP Pro. I guess this is the
penalty one pays when they go to a high priced, quality component fast
machine that I believed would be wonderful for my presentations and video
projections. I'll be talking to the company tomorrow. BTW, I also asked for
advice on the Windows Media Player NG and have yet to get an answer.

As always, any suggestions that I may try will be very welcome and I'll be
sure to provide feedback that may help others with the same or similar
problems in the future.

I'm having the same problem with PPT2000 and XP Pro
Premiere also doesn't work with mpegs, and generates a shutdown error

My WM9 media player alone will play the mpegs though.

With PPT2000 and XP Pro, I found if I reduced the graphics acceleration,
everything worked. This is my first time where I'm running into all kinds of
weird problems with PPT and XP Pro.

Got the Answer.

My machine was preconfigured with Win XP Pro but the mplay files were
damaged. The company SYSTEM RESTORE disks used Norton Ghost and they were
also corrupted.
I did a fresh Install of XP Pro and now PPT works as should and Mplay32
seems to work on most of my files. I'm still having a bit of a codec problem
on some but not all MPEG-1s.
I'll keep you informed.
