I have an Access mdb file (built in 2003 in the 02/03 format) that I have
packaged with the runtime using InstallShield. The database works fine on
all machines but one. The (offending) machine is a laptop running WinXP SP2.
When I click the link for the installed mdb the screen flashes and I can
(briefly) see a dialog for the Windows installer, and then the screen just
goes back to the desktop. The database file never opens. I have had this
problem in the past and was able to correct it by fixing MDAC.
This time I have tried repairing MDAC and that hasn't helped at all. To
test, I added a test mdb on the machine. It has only one table and one form
and there is absolutely no code in it. (the form was created quickly with the
wizard to display the data in the single table in tabular format) However,
opening the test file returns the same results.
I have repaired/reinstalled the Access Runtime several times. I cannot
completely uninstall it because my client has another program that apparently
uses the Runtime as well. In fact, I'm quite certain that the last time we
had this issue they had installed an update for that other program and
mysteriously my application wouldn't work on their machines anymore.
This problem really needs to get fixed and despite my research, I cannot
seem to find any solution that fixes this problem. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
