MDE file

I've just finished the first phase of my database and want to create an MDE
file so others on the network can use it whether or not they have access.
When I try to create an mde file I get the error message "Access cannot
create an mde file."

Does anyone know what the issue is?

A few things to note: my tables have data, some tables are actually linked
jpg images, I'm using access 2003.

Do I have to strip my tables before I create the mde and then import the
data afterwards.

i think you are confusing run-time version with mde. An mde version still
requires the user to have access on their machine. It simply locks down the
db so that the user can not make changes to your forms, code, etc.

Create a backup before continuing (just in case). Then, I would suggest you
perform a compact and repair.

You dont get an error number?

In addition to Daniel's comments, if you are not able to create an mde in
2003, make sure you are using 2003 format. You cannot create an mde from
2003 using 2000 format.

Thanks. I figured it out. tried to compile before creating a MDE and
couldn't due to some faulty code. All fixed up. So I'm more of a nubie than
I thought. How do you create a run time version.

If you're running access 2003 or earlier then you need to get the developer's
extensions.... which isn't worth the investiment unless you're doing a lot of
dev.

If you're using 2007 you can get them free.

Search this forum for 'run-time' you'll get all the info you need.
