I've read several posts about mdi files and xp. Seems
that 2003 will but xp won't. I have xp. I have re-
installed xp. I have Microsoft Document Imaging
istalled. And re-installed. The only option in save as
is tif. Any suggestions?

Hi Bobby,

The MDI format is a derivative of the TIFF specification,
introduced with Office 2003. So far it doesn't appear that
anything outside of 2003 Document imaging,
even http://www.thumbsplus.com supports them yet, that has been
reported here.
