meeting requests I send are received scrambled and can't be read

When I send a meeting request from my laptop PC the meeting request is
received by the recipient, but it arrives all scrambled up and can not be
read. It does not arrive in the normal format with tabs to accept, decline,
tentative etc. I think it might be a compatabilty problem, but all my work
mates are also using Outlook so I am not sure what the problem could be. Has
anyone any suggestions please
