Meeting Workspace

Is Sharepoint absolutely necessary to create a meeting workspace or can a
workspace be created through the Exchange Server? What we are trying to
accomplish is a location to place documents, etc. that are associated to
meetings that are scheduled via meeting requests in Outlook. If the
documents are attached to the requests, than anyone with reviewer rights to
your calendar can open the event and peruse the attachments, etc.
