Member Area Button with User and Password

How do you create a Member Area Button that when pressed will verify a USER
ID and Password in order to continue? I know how to create a button. But
how do I link it to a look up table? I presume you can create the table in
Excel and link it some how to the button for verification. I must be missing

It sure would be nice if there was a small subroutine program within a
pre-programmed button.
