Memo field import error, dbase file

Hi,

I am trying to import a table with a dbase memo field and
associated *.fpt file but continually receive an
error 'External table is not in the expected format' and
am unable to locate any reference to what this means or
how to recitfy.

Has anyone had experiences with this before or know how to
fix?? Any help is very much appreciated.
