memory issues

I have a G4 867 Mhz with a GB of RAM running 10.3.3. When I
open a file in Word X v1 then close the file and try to
open another file it tells me I'm out of memory and can't
open the file. In earlier versions of Mac OS I was able to
add more memory to the program but with OS X handling the
memory how do I adjust the memory allocated to Word. I've
closed all of my programs with just Word open and it still
happens.

Any ideas???

I think you're the third person to report this in the last few weeks, and I
don't believe there's a standard resolution. Use Google groups to search
for the previous threads on it, re out of memory and opening files. I
believe Word says "out of memory" as a generic error message for a lot of
issues, so that's not necessarily the problem.

A lot of the serious experts are likely to be off the newsgroups just now,
so I'm sorry not to be more helpful.

Follow this link for general troubleshooting techniques:

See here to make sure you are fully updated:

Let us know what version of Word you have, whether this is all documents or
just some, and whether any of the step-by-step suggestions for
troubleshooting worked--it'd be great to nail down what's causing the
problem. Also, do you have any Word add-ins or haxies installed?

Hi Don:

That's a bug caused (or revealed) by the upgrade to 10.3.3. It has nothing
to do with "memory".

If everything is operating normally, if Word cannot access the file it wants
it's because there is not enough memory available to load it. So the error
message you are seeing really means "I cannot load this file".

Try running Disk Utility and repairing permissions. Then visit the
Microsoft Mac website and make sure you have applied all the latest updates
for Word X. (Take careful note of the instructions you find there: if you
don't do it right, you get to do it over...)

If you add any updates, you MUST re-run the repair permissions utility.

No guarantees: we're still waiting for Microsoft to get back to us on this
one, but that might fix it. Email me if it doesn't and I will open another
support incident for you.

Cheers

John

Thank you. I used Disk Utility to repair Permissions then
upgraded to the latest version of Word and then repaired
Permissions once more and it seems to have worked. I will
let you know if the memory message raises it's ugly head again/
