Hello,

The leak bug referenced in earlier posts with respect to memory, the toolbox, wysiwyg.... has this been fixed in the current version of Word?

I am still getting crashes using an imac w/ 1 GB ram and Word 12.1.2.

Thanks.

I'm sure this isn't what you'd prefer to hear, but quite honestly I'm not
surprised ‹ 1 GB RAM is a bare minimum for running Office/Word in Leopard.
Both are very RAM intensive. They *each* recommend 512 MB as a minimum
requirement so I don't think it's "leakage" so much as it is "shortage".

Just for general info I checked a few minutes ago while running nothing but
Word 2008 (12.1.2) on Leopard (10.5.4) & not much more than standard
processes active RAM consumption on my MBP was ~1.17 GB

If you're referring to some of the problems associated with startup times,
Toolbox interference with inserting graphics & so on, Yes most all of that
has either been corrected or substantially improved. If you're still
experiencing frequent crashes, however, I doubt that any of those issues are
going to resolve anything for you.

You might try the troubleshooting steps here which pertain to your
situation. Perhaps there may be some improvement but I truly believe another
Gig of RAM would be the most effective course to follow:

In the meantime, restarting your Mac at least once a day, running only the
minimum number of programs at once & re-launching Word periodically are the
only other suggestions I can offer.

Yeah, in 10.5 it very definitely is :)

Most of the "major" memory leaks in Office have now been fixed. But all
multi-tasking software leaks "some" memory, so Word will leak a little
memory over time.

I make it a habit to quit applications when I am not using them, and if I am
working heavily in one, I quit it when I go to lunch also.

It doesn't hurt to re-boot the OS when you stop work at night, also, when
you are that low on memory. When the memory is low, the OS is relying on
the paging file, which is one of the files that is cleaned out on a reboot.
If you want to really polish its insides, switch the power off on Friday:
when OS X starts from power-on, it runs some extra clean-up tasks.

Hope this helps

OK, thanks. I didn't realize 1G was now a bare minimum.
