Menu bar and pictures in document not visible

When I open a word document, I can see the document quite well. However, the
menubar at the top is not present.

Also, if the document contains bmp/jpeg picture images, only the outlining
box is shown.

I suspected "Normal.dot" corruption and removed it. Also, tried to replace
it from other machine where word works well. But still the menu is invisible.
I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire office 2000, but the problems
remain.

How can I overcome the error?

Wow. I've been using that link forever. How ironic that the "missing menus"
link would be "missing" the letter "i". Sheesh.

Well, it's a little more complex than that. For quite some time, the link
you gave (http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissngMenusEtc.htm) was that
correct one, but http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm
would also work (and I was using the latter, unaware of this). Then the
correctly spelled link stopped working, so I corrected my boilerplate to the
misspelled one. Then apparently John got around to fixing it without telling
anyone, and suddenly http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm
was working and http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissngMenusEtc.htm
wasn't. <sigh>

Ah! I was wondering. I know that when I created that shortcut in my
signature list (which is what I use for boilerplate tips) I copied it
directly from IE's address bar. I couldn't imagine how I'd put out one of
its i's.

I also use signatures for boilerplate, and that one has been "fixed" several
times now.
