menu bar disappeared

Yesterday I accidentally clicked on the toolbar X and deleted my
custumized toolbar.
I spent about 15 minutes today making one again (it didn't save my
original one) and then all of a sudden, THAT one disappeared and
everythign in my menu bar, save for "word" and "window" just
disappeared.
i can't go to tools and try to fix it, because i can't see the tools
button on the menu bar.
i can't go to file, nor edit, nor view, or any of the others, becaues
they are simply not there.

Any suggestions?

It's Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac, not windows office for mac. :) But
I assume this is a problem just with Word, right?

What version of the OS? what version of Office 2004?

Have you already tried quitting and restarting Word? (You can quit by
right-clicking in the dock, or using cmd-Q).

If relaunching Word doesn't help, try testing the prefs (see the Damaged
Preferences link under General Troubleshooting on this page):
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html
If that doesn't work, try testing the Normal Template.

Post back with preliminary results.

By the way--I don't think it is possible to delete a custom toolbar by
clicking on a toolbar X. But we'll deal with that later.

It's not, and the Menu doesn't have an "X", so that's not the problem
either.

I'd go straight to blasting the Normal template from existence (but then
again, I do that every time I start Word...)

Another, probably remote, possibility is that there's an add-in/global
template loading, either in the

Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Startup:Word:

folder (or the alternate startup folder if there is one), or loaded via
Tools/Templates and Add-ins...
