Menu bar is Gone

Someone just called me on the phone to find out how to get his Menu bar.
It's missing.
I'm thinking, perhaps we can use Alt+T (for Tools), Alt+C (for customize)
and Alt+b (for Toolbars and make sure that Menu Bar is checked. As usual,
'friend' is not savvy and won't have a clue. All he has in Word is space to
type.

Can someone Verify if this is so?

Or use the Alt+ procedure to reach Detect and Repair. Is that possible?

Or is this normally considered a corrupted program now.

What version of Word? If it's an older version, it might be that friend is
in Full Screen mode, and simply needs to press the Escape key. Otherwise,

'friend' didn't know what version of Word.
