Menu bar is Gone

Someone just called me on the phone to find out how to get his Menu bar.
It's missing.
I'm thinking, perhaps we can use Alt+T (for Tools), Alt+C (for customize)
and Alt+b (for Toolbars and make sure that Menu Bar is checked. As usual,
'friend' is not savvy and won't have a clue. All he has in Word is space to
type.

Can someone Verify if this is so?

Or use the Alt+ procedure to reach Detect and Repair. Is that possible?

Or is this normally considered a corrupted program now.

'friend' didn't know what version of Word.
However, You sent a great URL and maybe that info will fix it.
Thanks, much.

: What version of Word? If it's an older version, it might be that friend is
: in Full Screen mode, and simply needs to press the Escape key. Otherwise,
