Menu Ideas in Access 2010

We are updating a major application we originally wrote in access
2000. I would like to update the menu look and feel. In the past I
have used more of a switchboard type layout but want to update this to
look more current.

I like the navigation control look/concept but if I am understanding
it, you can have a veritcal menu but then the submenu is horizontal.
I would like the submenu items to expand from the main menu selection
vertically, not horizontally. So, if you select menu option 1, I
would like the submenu choices to expand between menu option 1 and
menu option 2. Maybe indented a little bit to differentiate a bit
that it is a sub menu option. I have used the tree control in the
past to accomplish this and that is also fine but was trying to see if
anyone else had come across a neat modern looking, table driven menu
interface concept.

I can probably write some code to make a one layer navigation control
do this, just curious what might be out there.

Let me know if anyone has come across something like this or written
something like this.
