menu items have disappeared: View>Normal and Tools>Spelling and Grammar

I clicked on the View menu and attempted to click on Normal and
somehow my clicking caused it to disappear. The same thing happened
with Spelling and Grammar. I've restarted and they are still gone. How
can I get them back?? Or restore default?

Hi Catherine,

It would be so VERY helpful if you would always give us your OS and Office
version numbers (and update levels) when posting!

If you're in Office X or 2001 and you really mean "disappear" instead of
"stop working," then try this. Go to Tools> Customize, make sure the main
menu bar is selected and click Reset.

If you're in Office 2001 and you really mean "stop working" rather than
"disappear", then see here:

If you're in Office X and resetting the tool bar doesn't work, check the
troubleshooting suggestions at the following URL. After repairing
permissions, test the Word Settings file. Next try the Normal template
procedure. If those don't do it, keep working through the list (but forget
the fonts procedure; it's not that):
