menu problems

I hope some one can help. Yesterday I was changing the macro security setting in Excel in Office XP I then closed the program and later returned to Excel to find out that most of my menues weren't accesible any more. I basically can't do any thing, copy, paste, turn protection on and off, or even save. I doubt that it is a virus since I wasn't connected to the net at the time and Norton 2004 didn't find anything. I tried everything that I could think of, I even reloaded Office. If someone can help me I appreciate it. Thank you.
