merge cells

I have tried to merge two or more cells in my shared
spreadsheet and the icon on the task bar is greyed out. I
have tried by reseting the tool bar but it still does not
work. I have also had many crashes that are an aggrivation
and when I try to open the sheets the program will not
respond.

Sorry pal that is one of the limitation of a shared workbook (See help:
Features that are unavailable in shared workbooks). Other expert here might
have a better idea but what i suggest is to unshare the workbook first. But
be sure that no one else is using the file.
