Merge field delimiter in insert > field > formula ?

Ok, i know it's probably a stupid question, but I can't figure out
how to insert merge field delimiters (those fancy { } codes) when
typing a formula using the insert -> field -> formula tool.

As far as I can tell ctrl+F9 does not work in that situation, nor
typing directly the { } !

This is Word 2003 SP1 Fr

I don't think you can do it - you must insert the outer field, then the
inner one afterwards, for example, enter the first field as = A * 2 and this
will appear as { = A * 2 } then select the A and press Ctrl+F9 to get { =
{ A } * 2 }

CTRL+F9 does not work in many dialog boxes. Insert the fields manually -
directly into the document, where CTRL+F9 does work.
