Thanks for the suggestions.
Tried the suggestions, but no luck.

I had actually simplified my original question.

What I am doing is trying to create special numbered tickets and
the only merge data is a sequential number text format) from one spreadsheet
column.

I hate to give up but will use WordPerfect.

I wouldn't have thought that the field shading would have printed even if
your diagnosis is correct?
