Merge from Excel XP to Word XP

know that this has been answered somewhat, however I have found no posts
which have the exact issue.

We have a Works database which was exported to a Excel spreadsheet. The
formatting in the worksheet is something like this.

Excel XP workbook

Mar April May June July Aug
Sep
$30.00 $15.00 $15.00 $30.00 $30.00 $30.00 $30.00

Mar, April, May, and June values were all exported from the Works database.
July, Aug, and Sep values added in Excel. All are formatted the same.

The problem is when we merge to a Word document only the values typed in
Excel retain formatting for my example would look like this:

Word XP doc

Mar April May June July Aug
Sep
30 15 15 30 $30.00 $30.00
$30.00

If we manually edit a cell in Excel, the formatting shows properly in Word;
for example if we were to just edit the Mar value it would look like this in
the Word document:

Mar April May June July Aug
Sep
$30.00 15 15 30 $30.00 $30.00 $30.00

The field codes in Word all are formatted the same, I understand that I
could
add $#.00 formatting in the field codes but that brings up another problem.

Is there any way to see what might be different (hidden) in the Works
generated data than that put into Excel after the import?

Can you help?

What is different is that the information exported from Works exported as
General or Text format.

Easiest way to convert all numbers to actual numbers is to select a blank cell,
enter 1, Edit Copy
then select the area containing numbers that you want to make sure are formatted
as numbers, Edit Paste Special -- Multiply.

I am having the very same problem. I export from an Access 2002 db to an
Excel SS and try to merge currency in Word XP and the formatting in currency
is lost. The fieldcode of \# is invalid because I think it considered it
text even though the cell type in Excel is currency. This is important for
notification of award letters.

Please..any help word be appreciated.

TIA!

I would like to find out what is the cause of this odd behavior. In my case
the file was exported to a tab delimited text file before importing into
Excel. Only the cells which contain the text file data exhibit this
problem.
