merge from phone numbers from Excel with rules

Thanks for the help. We have an Excel spreadsheet that holds phone numbers.
We would like for all phone numbers to merge into Access in this format (555)
555-5555. Is there a way to control this so Excel can only hold this format
or that Access can only import with this format?

I already use the input mask but it doesn't take care of things like a
skipped area code.

How would you like it to handle a skipped area code? How would the user
handles this when entering a number? Would it be allowed, or it would it
tell the user that the number did not fit in the format?
