Merge Mail Printing Problem

Mitch

I am running MS Word 2002 (10.2627.2625) under XP. I last used Word to
merge many years ago and am now trying to print envelopes from a merged
list. I have the list ready to go and have two problems.

1. The main one is that I cannot seem to print at all. I am printing
to a Lexmark Z45 that I use all the time and have no problems. I am
using the Mail Merge Wizard and try to print from Step 6 of 6. I get a
msg saying that the margins of section 1 are set outside the printable
area of the page. I continue (hit "yes") and the printer appears to
get some signal. The printer display shows "printing", then "deleting
printing" and that is the end of the process. This is a showstopper,
and it is for my daughter's wedding invitations.

2. I am printing to custom sized envelopes (7.25 x 5.25 inch) and have
managed to get that size set up. I have also changed the font size of
the <<address block>>, but the <<country>> that I had to add in
separately is still at the old font size. I can change it manually bit
am printing about 130 envelopes and would rather do it the correct way
if I can.

Thanks for any help, Mitch

I don't know what's wrong in this case, but I often have trouble with custom
paper sizes here and usually fix it by using a completely standard paper
size (A4 in my case) and working out which part to print on when I actually
load the custom paper size.As long as your printer does not complain when
you actually load a different paper size you should be OK.

If you are actualy creating the envelope layout using Word (or Word
Mailmerge) envelope setup, I'd do that, then copy/paste the text boxes or
whatever Word creates onto my new layout and adjust their positions.

Then I'd test the layout using standard cheap paper before using up any real
envelopes, then print in small batches.

Thanks Peter. I am trying to do something like that now. I hav
determined that the default margins are so large that there is n
printable area on the page. When I change them to be what I need, Wor
complains that “The margins of section 1 are set outside the printabl
area of the page.” If I continue I get my problem – the printout i
deleted before printing. If I allow Word to “fix” the problem, th
margins go back to being so large that nothing can print.

I’ll see if I can set it up to print on letter size paper in the righ
place. I have determined that I can print on letter size paper withou
problem. Very frustrating! Thanks again, Mitc
