Merge two documents together to create one doc with collapsible li

I do not beleive this is possible but thought i might ask. A colleague is
trying to merge two documents together. One document is a list of names, and
the other has detailed information about the names. The goal is to produce a
single document which only shows the names initially, but when clicked shows
the information.


Is this something that can be done via macro or do we just have to try and
create a new doc with styles and usiing outline views? BTW we are currently
using Word 07.

there are two considerations here:

1. bringing the content together (either once/static, or dynamically), and
2. how to go about the displaying thing.

And maybe even before that (you could call it #0), some thought might be
spent in which application to tackle the whole thing. [I'm not sure
whether Excel might be easier.]

On the whole, #1 is somewhat a Database job (the second list needs some
kind of reference to the first list). If you have that, then I'd surely
put the two lists into excel and create the third.

Using outline View for #2 seems a sound idea (like, Name in Heading
style, rest in Normal, so that you can toggle it on/off by choosing
outline level views). You could technically use a hidden style or hidden
formatting also, and then toggle the display of hidden text or the
hidden property of the style (basically one line of macro code, put the
macro on a toolbar).
