merged file has weird section breaks

I just did a mail merge file, creating a Word document
with the end result. For some reason, the section breaks
between each letter force each letter onto the next odd
page, creating a blank page in between each letter.

Even weirder, I can't see the blank pages, but my
document has twice as many pages as it should, and when
printed, blank pages "print" between each letter. What is
going on?

Luckily, this is a small merge, so I can manually change
the section breaks to hard page breaks.

Have you checked the setting "Section start" in File/Page
setup/Layout?
