Merging Access database into Word via mail merge

I tried to merge an access database into Word using mail merge. I went to
edit my recipient list and then clicked 'Find' to look for a single person by
last name. It told me that it couldn't find my person (we scrolled down and
saw him). I went back into my list of mail merge recipients and clicked
'Edit'. I got the message, 'Word could not re-establish a DDE connection to
Microsoft Access to complete the current task.' It also used to take almost
no time for me to get my list of mail merge recipients and now it takes a
while. What do I need to do?
