Merging Categories Only into Contacts

I am using OL03 and a SBS Exchange network.

One year ago a copy was made of our Contacts in the Public Folder onto a
local hard drive copy of Outlook 2003. An intern then proceeded to make
changes to the categories of our 2000+ contacts, only they were working on
the copy and not the Public Folders copy of the contacts file.

We are now interested in merging the categories back into the Public Folders
copy of Contacts without merging any other of the contact information due to
the fact that we have been working with and updating the Public Folders copy
of Contacts for over a year since the copy was made.

Any ideas on if this is even possible and what the process would be to get
this accomplished?
