Merging documents in different record order

Is there a way to merge a document so in an order like the
following: Record 2, Record 1, Record 4, Record 3?

Hi Tanya,

You can sort the records in your data source by any field and the
completed merge will appear in the same order. How you accomplish
sorting depends on what version of Word you are using - which you
didn't provide. :)

However, I suspect you have a different goal in mind. Perhaps if you
expand on what you are trying to do we can be of more assistance.
