Merging Documents

When I try to merge 2 word documents it is coming up with
the following message.

"The merged document contains unmarked changes. Do you
want to merge up to the first untracked change?"

The only options are Cancel - which does nothing or OK -
which also does nothing.

There is no change tracking on the document, so I am at a
loss for what to do.

Any help gratefully appreciated!

How are you ascertaining that there is no change tracking in
the document?
