Merging email distribution lists in Outlook 2007

I have two large distribution lists in Outlook 2007 that I want to merge into
a third. Some emails I want to send to list number 1 and others to number 2
and others to both 1 & 2. I do not want duplicate address is the new
distribution list. How do I create a 3rd distribution list that contains all
of the members of 1 and 2 without manually deleting the duplicates?

You can nest DL's. Seems like that should accomplish what you want.
Relying on large DL's is not recommended. Make sure you back them up
properly and often.

Russ,

How do you "nest" the two lists. They are really not that large. Each are
less than 150 email addresses. I would think this task would be very popular
and this cabability really needed. Thanks!!! Don

DL's appear in the Select Members dialog when you create a DL. Just add the
DL you want to nest to the one you are creating.

150 is very large by DL standards. DL's in Outlook are neither reliable or
robust. Member addresses frequently become corrupt. Whenever one does, the
entire DL is toast.

Russ,

Thanks for the info. The size is actually less than 75 on one and less than
50 on the other. As far as putting them togehter I know how to do that. It
is how to eliminate the duplicates is the real question without doing it
manually. Thanks again for answering me. Don

You delete duplicates in DL's manually unless you know how to write and run
code.

I believe Outlook will detect any duplicated address and send only a single
message to it.

I couldn't post a question, not sure if something is wrong or if I am doing
something wrong, but I was hoping someone would be able to read my reply and
help me out. I have the same question about merging multiple distribution
lists, but I can't seem to make it work. I already have a distribution list
created that I want to merge another distribution list into it, in the same
contact group.
help?

sorry let me clarify...I want to merge the contacts inside the distribution
list into the new distribution list I created. When I open the dL I want to
copy out of...I can't find a way to select the contacts in order to move them
over. It moves the whole distribution list over.

DLs can be nested if you want to merge two DLs into one. There's not way to
select and copy specific members. Export the two DLs (File>Save As>Save as
type=Text Only), making them Tab Separated Values files, open them with
Excel and merge them there. Then create a new DL, click Select Members.
Return to the Excel window, select all the name/address pairs, click
Edit>Copy, return to the Select Members dialogue and paste the selection
into the Members field.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Brian. Obviously you are very knowledgable on
outlook. Can you recommend a good site or book that is "user friendly" to
help me learn more about outlook? I did not think it would be this difficult
to use. I've used express and Windows Live for so long but desided to switch
to Outlook in hopes it could do more of what I needed.
Thank you again for you help! You saved me countless hours of manual typing
today.
