Merging individual cells within a column - need help!

G

greg

I need to merge individually selected cells within a
column. For example: column 1
Cell 1: 01 New Defects
Cell 2: 02 New Enhancements
Cell 3: 01 New defects
Cell 4: 12 Deferred
Cell 5: 01 New Defects
Cell 6: Deferred
You get the idea. I need to select cells 1,3, and 5,
then merge the cells so that there is only one cell with
01 New Defects but that cell will stretch to cover all of
the rows for each selected 01 New Defects.

When I select the cells (with doc in Web view and
paragraph markings turned on), Merge Cells is not
available. The only time it is available is if I select
the entire document then everything is put into one giant
cell. I know this can be done as the doument I amd
trying to update has had this done to it. But the person
that did this is no longer available.
I hope I have made this clear,
Please help if possible,
thanks,
greg

G'Day Greg,

On the face of it. what you are doing is NOT possible.

However, if you first SORT the table so that all
"01 New defects" cells are together (immediately
vertically above/below each other), THEN you
will be able to merge them!
