Merging to invitation-2 per page

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I need to merge data to invitations. They are formatted on landscape 8-1/2 x 11, 2 per page. The same name prints on both sides of the page, or just on the left with nothing on the right side. I've tried merging to columns, and to a table. Any ideas?
