Merging with parameters

Hi - I have access 2002 and I am trying to use a query as
a data source for a mail merge. My query is a parameter
query and in access 97 when I used a parameter query as a
data source it simply asked me to enter the parameter
before merging - in 2002 however it wont even connect to
the query.

Can anyone tell me how I can get round this?
