It's called a Discussion web.

Mike,

You should look at www.AIMOO.com They offer FREE message boards with
CHAT and ADMIN CAPABILITIES. Their service is great. I currently manage a
message board through them for an Animal Rescue organization that I have
done web design for. The use-ability of the site, and the chat area of ther
MB's are great.

Good Luck,
Carl

Look for the Discussion Web, under new Site templates, etc.

Just to clarify - The FrontPage Discussion Web component creates a message
board. There is no FrontPage component for chatting. They are 2 completely
different kinds of communication. A message board works a lot like this
newsgroup. A chat app enables people to message each other in real time.

I haven't used the Discussion web for many versions but if was never really feature-filled or anything. I'd recommend checking out a place that hosts DIscussion forums online. I've used www.ezboard.com before or try the one that Carl posted. Most of them can be colorized and such to integrate them with the same general look and feel of you current site, but they are hosted somewhere completely different.

Mr B.,

You are very correct. I have a site that uses the FP Discussion Web,
and the other site that uses AIMOO.com's message board/chat. My clients
have seen both, and the FP Discussion Web user is happy with that they have,
and the AIMOO customer is happy with what they have. If you are looking for
a highly customizable chat/message board area then definately go with an
outside source. If you just want simple discussion traffic the use FP's.
Keep in mind, with FP you have to go into the online web area to delete
posts that you don't want out there. With an outside source there are
usually features for editors to delete a post right from the post. On AIMOO
you can dedicate other users as moderators to take care of this for you.

Good Luck to whoever is trying to decide...it took me two weeks...
