Message confusion

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Today I lost over a months worth of email messages without pressing delete and regained old email messages that I had deleted and trashed. I rebuilt the database, but that did not help. I have searched all entourage folders to no avail. What can I do?

This does not sound like POP account behavior. I'm assuming you have no
backups? Do you have Time Machine?

Messages just don't disappear.
