message is "Publisher cannot open the file." Why??

I am working on a 44 page newsletter in Publisher, which is almost done! I
got a message that I did not have enough memory and I should close other
programs. I did not have a lot open- just Word and Outlook- but I closed
them. I could not manuever through the pages in Publisher - it was like I
was "stuck". So- I closed the file and when I tried to open it again, I got
the message, "Publisher cannot open the file."

Any ideas? I have already copied the file and tried to open it on another
computer- still the same deal though.

Sounds like a corrupted graphic, this more than anything else will hang up a
Publisher file.
In Publisher, file, open, files of type, scroll down to "recover text from any file"
and browse to your file. You won't be able to recover the images, but it might save
you a lot of typing.

Send the file to me, maybe I can open it... who knows?
remove "my" to reply.

It is Publisher 2003. I am working on the Text conversion now. My 44 page
newsletter is now up to 262 pages of text.. Very interesting...

Is this an argument in favor of keeping graphics linked instead of
embedded?

what would happen if one tried to use PackNGo to change embedded
graphics tpo linked?

I think that you are correct regarding the embedded graphics. THis is a case
of live and learn. I tried the recover text thing-- but my 44 pages got up
to 637 when it appeared that it was never going to end. So-- I am recreating
my newsletter from the original files etc. What a pain in the neck!

As always: Make a backup, make another backup, and a third one, and.....
I always save my work in different named files several times during the day.
Then I can revert back to the previous version if "something" goes wrong,
and only loose an hours work or so.

No help to you now, but may be a tip for the future?

Thanks for the advice and thoughts. I do have a back up- just not recent
enough! Oh yes, my backing up (especially of a project this large) will be
much more frequent now.
