Message minimises when attachment opened

Running Outlook 2000 under Windows XP, we have an intermittant problem when
opening attachments. If I double click on a Word or Excel attachment it opens
up maximised on top of the message. When I close Word or Excel, the message
is no longer active on the screen but minimised to the task bar.
