Message [Save as...].txt wraps text in the saved file

How can I stop Outlook 2007 adding carriage return - line feeds into messages
that are being saved as .txt files.??
When opening the original message the lines show across the full screen but
after saving the file the text is wrapped at column 78.
I have tried the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823921/en-us#appliesto
mod but this does not work. (WrapLines value is set to 0)

Running Vista business on virtual machine 2007 with xp professional as a host.
All updates are installed.

Could anyone shed some light on this...
