Message Transfer from PST Inbox to Junk Email Folder in "Default"

Only since Oct 19 (10 days ago) have certain messages come into my inbox and
then immediately disappeared. I have been unabl e to find them until just
now after reading through many other questions on this point. Some of the
emails might otherwise be properly classified as junk and find their way into
my personal PST junk folder, but most of them are valid emails from known
senders. And what's stranger still is that other emails from the same
senders remain in my inbox.

I get my email from my gmail account. I have been using this setup for the
last 18 months, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. I
do have a number of rules for autofiling purposes, but see nothing to account
for this outcome.

All ideas welcome
