Subj: Message view delay in Outlook: still there and still due to
Instant Messaging
Outlook 2002 SP-2, Windows XP SP 1.
This is an information posting, optimized for Google indexing, to help
other victims. It's not a request for help. Posted here because the
last notification I found via Google was 6 months old.

I recently had to reinstall my OS and apps. After I was done I
experienced a 2-3 second delay when navigating inbox items -- or any
Outlook folder message. It was not due to OST issues, network
connection, antivirus problems (NAV), message location, PST, OST, etc.

It was due to Microsoft Instant Messaging [1].

Tools-options-other-disable IM got rid of the very aggravating
problem.

There's something about the way XP Pro behaves when first installed,
now that Passport is being pushed harder and IM is integrated with PP,
that predisposes innocents like myself to unwittingly enable IM
integration with Outlook (I don't use IM). That's bad enough, except
that a bug in the IM integration creates this delay.

A bug in IM integration, and uwnwated IM enabling are bad enough, but
a bug that's been known for over 6 months [1] and is still not fixed
is even worse.

Can you imagine the productivity cost across millions of users. HEY,
those minutes add up! Not to mention the increased blood pressure,
strokes, etc.
