Messages downloaded and read in Entourage don't go to Iphone

I just switched over from Office X 2004 to 2008 and am having some trouble
with the new version of Entourage. Most of the day I have my computer open
and Entourage is downloading messages as they come in. When I read these
messages they get updated on my Gmail server as being read, as a result my
iphone doesnt pull them down, in 2004 this did not happen. This is
problematic as when I do not have access to my computer I still need access
to those emails (without having to actually go online and log into gmail. Is
there a way to stop Entourage from changing the status of my emails on the
IMAP server so that they end up in both locations?

thnx

This shouldn't be a problem and clearly, for me, it's not the case.
Check the settings for the gMail account both on the Mac and on the
iPhone to make sure neither is set to use POP instead of IMAP.

I have no problem with gmail and my iPhone. Gmail is set as IMAP and
so all my mail is reflected everywhere exactly the same - mail,
Entourage, Web, Palm TX and iPhone. Make sure you're set up as IMAP.
With gmail also you might want to make some folders like all mail
invisible to the client and you can do this in settings.

There's a trick you can use with Gmail that allows your iphone to act
like a BlackBerry and have mail appear instantly on the iphone. Setup
your gmail account as Microsoft Exchange account. The only thing you
need to know is the domain name is m.google.com and the exchange
server name is m.google.com. Now all your folders will still appear as
IMAP for Gmail but as soon as mail is received it will hit your iPhone
(make sure you have the push option turned on). This also saves
battery over fetch especially with IMAP. Its very cool. Mobileme also
allows this but its pricey and its not something I need.
