Messages going into search folder

Greetings all. I need some help.
I have a user that is using POP3 and Outlook 2003. He has a number of
folders in his Inbox.
Most of his emails are going into his search folder as are his inbox folders.
He most likely (as he always does) has fiddled with an option in Outlook. I
have no idea what, I have searched the KB but am lost.
This happened 6months ago, he had a previous tech fix it "very quickly"

search folders arejust special folders that display messages stored
elsewhere, so nothing is wrong when they are visible in the search folders.

Greetings all. I need some help.

Most of his emails are going into his search folder as are his inbox
folders.

Search folders are not real folders. They show you messages matching the
search criteria no matter what other folder they're in. They also show you
that folder so you can find the real messages. What you describe sounds
like normal search folder behavior to me.

Diane,
the problem that occurs is the "emails" leave his inbox and are only visible
in the search folder. Does this mean that he has perhaps a rule that is
redirecting his emails...

Aloha Barry,

Yes, that sounds likely - a rule moving the messages to some sub-folder being
monitored by the search folder. You might open that search folder and change
the Arrange By to "Folder" or "In Folder" (or something like that) which
should show you which folders the messages are actually in.

The Search folder will show you in what folders the messages reside. My
bet, though, is that they're still in the Inbox and he has "Unread Messages"
selected as the view.

Brian that sounds like this. How do I unselect the "unread messages view"
I will be at his location today to try resolve this.

Just choose a different view - look on the view menu. Which search folders
are they "going" into? If it's the unread one, then the problem is a view,
but obviously not the unread view... you can reset the views by clicking on
the row of field names at the top of the message list and choosing custom
(or customize) and then reset.
