Messages in subfolder disappear after I read them

I created a filter that automatically moves certain emails into a subfolder
in my inbox. These emails all disappear after I read them. I checked the view
options, and it's set to view "Messages," not just unread messages, so I
don't know where to find them.

I reconfigured the filter for this folder and now my new messages don't
disappear, but I still can't see the old ones.
